Engineering students often face one final hurdle after completing their N6 studies: finding workplace experience to complete their National Diploma requirements.
To help students overcome this challenge, Ikhala TVET College has partnered with the Energy and Water SETA (EWSETA) to offer 30 Engineering In-Service Training opportunities for qualifying students.
The programme is intended for Ikhala TVET College students who have successfully completed their N6 qualifications in Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering and require practical workplace training before they can graduate.
Applications are now open and will close on 23 June 2026.
Helping Students Move From Classroom Learning to Industry Experience
Many TVET students complete all their academic requirements but remain unable to obtain their diplomas because they still need practical industry exposure.
Workplace training is a mandatory component of many engineering qualifications and provides students with the opportunity to apply their technical knowledge in real working environments.
Without this practical component, students cannot complete the requirements for their National Diploma.
The Ikhala Engineering In-Service Training Programme aims to help address this challenge by creating structured workplace opportunities for eligible learners.
Programme Focus Areas
The opportunity is available to students who completed N6 studies in the following engineering disciplines:
Civil Engineering
Students in Civil Engineering may gain exposure to construction activities, infrastructure projects, technical operations, and engineering support functions.
Electrical Engineering
Electrical Engineering students may receive workplace exposure involving installations, maintenance procedures, technical systems, and operational support.
Mechanical Engineering
Mechanical Engineering participants may gain practical experience related to machinery, maintenance processes, manufacturing environments, and engineering operations.
Applicants must ensure that their qualification falls within one of these approved fields before applying.
Who Is Eligible to Apply?
The programme is specifically reserved for students from Ikhala TVET College.
To qualify, applicants must:
- Be an Ikhala TVET College student
- Have successfully completed N6 studies
- Require workplace placement to complete a National Diploma
